Understand the Patterns That Keep Repeating:
Learn How to Create Lasting Change
You may already understand where some of your patterns came from.
But your body still reacts.
You might know you people-please, overthink, stay constantly busy, shut down during conflict, struggle to rest or find it difficult to express what you need.
But understanding a pattern does not always stop it from happening.
That is because many of your reactions were not consciously chosen. They were learned through experience by your nervous system and reinforced by protective parts that were trying to keep you safe.
Rewriting the Instructions is a self-paced psychoeducational course designed to help you understand these patterns with greater compassion—and begin creating the experiences that allow something new to become possible.
You are not broken.
You adapted.
And what was learned can begin to change.
Is This Course for Me?
This course may be helpful if you:
Understand your patterns intellectually but still feel unable to change them
Frequently overthink, people-please, overwork or put other people’s needs first
Find it difficult to rest without feeling guilty or anxious
Become overwhelmed, reactive, numb or withdrawn during stress
Struggle to trust, ask for help, set boundaries or express your needs
Feel frustrated with yourself for repeating reactions you thought you had already worked through
Want to understand yourself without being blamed, judged or treated as though something is fundamentally wrong with you
You do not need any previous knowledge of psychology, nervous-system regulation or parts work. The ideas are introduced gradually, in accessible language, with practical examples and opportunities for reflection.
What Will I Learn?
Across nine modules, you will explore:
* How your nervous system learned through experience
* Why certain situations still trigger strong reactions
* How early environments and relationships shape internal instructions
* The difference between activation, shutdown and regulation
* How to recognise what is happening in your body
* How protective parts such as the inner critic, people-pleaser, perfectionist, over-worker and avoider try to help
* Why beliefs such as “I’m not enough” or “My needs are a burden” can feel so convincing
* How to respond to yourself with curiosity rather than criticism
* How new experiences gradually create new internal instructions
* How safe relationships, boundaries, support and repair contribute to healing
* How to lead your internal world with greater compassion, confidence and choice
The goal is not to eliminate every uncomfortable feeling or prevent your nervous system from ever reacting.
The goal is to understand what is happening, support yourself through it and develop more freedom in how you respond.
Why Is This Approach Different?
Many approaches focus primarily on changing your thoughts or encouraging you to behave differently.
But patterns that developed through lived experience often need more than information.
This course brings together nervous-system education, attachment theory, somatic awareness and Internal Family Systems–informed parts work. Instead of asking, “What is wrong with me?”, you will begin asking:
“What did my system learn?”
“What is this reaction trying to protect?”
“What might help me feel safe enough to respond differently?”
You will not be encouraged to fight your reactions, silence your inner critic or force yourself to feel calm.
You will learn to understand the protective purpose beneath your patterns, build a more trusting relationship with your body and parts, and create small, manageable experiences of change.
Because lasting change is rarely created through pressure.
It develops through awareness, safety, repetition and support.
Who Created the Course?
Rewriting the Instructions was created by Emma Fuller, Senior Psychologist and Director of The Psychological Pause.
Emma has extensive experience supporting adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, burnout, relationship difficulties, people-pleasing, emotional overwhelm and long-standing patterns of self-criticism.
Her therapeutic approach draws on Internal Family Systems, attachment theory, nervous-system regulation, somatic approaches, EMDR, compassion-focused therapy and other trauma-informed frameworks.
The course brings these ideas together in a way that is practical, compassionate and easy to understand—without reducing people to diagnoses or suggesting that their protective responses are the problem.
How Much Time Will It Require?
The course is entirely self-paced.
It contains nine modules and approximately six to eight hours of video teaching, guided practices and workbook activities.
You may choose to complete one module each week, move more slowly or return to certain lessons several times.
You are encouraged to watch each video, complete the accompanying workbook reflections and allow yourself time to absorb what you are learning before continuing.
There is no deadline and no need to rush.
Moving slowly is not falling behind. It is often how deeper learning occurs.
What Is Included?
Your purchase includes:
Nine structured learning modules
Short, accessible video lessons
A comprehensive downloadable workbook
Reflective exercises and personal mapping activities
Guided nervous-system and parts-based practices
Practical tools for regulation, boundaries, connection and self-leadership
Ongoing access so you can return to the material at your own pace
The course is designed to help you move beyond simply consuming information. You will be invited to notice, reflect, practise and begin applying the material to your own life.
What Is This Course Not?
This course is psychoeducational. It is not psychological therapy, medical care, crisis support or a replacement for an individual relationship with a qualified health professional.
It will not diagnose you, tell you exactly what happened in your childhood or promise that every pattern will disappear.
It is also not about blaming parents, forcing forgiveness, reliving traumatic memories or pushing yourself into experiences that feel overwhelming.
You remain in control of how much you explore and when you choose to pause.
Is It Safe and Appropriate for Me?
The course has been designed using a trauma-informed, choice-based approach. You will be encouraged to move at a manageable pace, notice your limits and pause whenever you need to.
You do not need to disclose personal experiences to anyone, and you are never required to complete an activity that does not feel appropriate.
However, learning about nervous-system responses, attachment and protective patterns can sometimes bring up strong emotions or memories.
This course may not be suitable as your only source of support if you are currently experiencing a mental health crisis, significant instability, active suicidal thoughts, severe dissociation or symptoms that make it difficult to remain present while reflecting on personal experiences.
In these circumstances, individual support from a psychologist, counsellor, GP or another qualified health professional may be more appropriate.
You may also choose to complete the course alongside therapy, particularly if you have experienced complex or significant trauma.
What Happens After I Buy?
After purchasing, you will receive instructions for accessing the course platform.
You can begin with Module 1 and move through the lessons in order. Each module builds on the ideas introduced in the previous one, so completing them sequentially is recommended.
You will be able to:
Watch the videos from your phone, tablet or computer
Download and complete the workbook
Pause and revisit lessons whenever needed
Practise the guided exercises in your own time
Continue returning to the course as your understanding develops
There is no expectation that you will complete everything perfectly.
This is not another program asking you to work harder at fixing yourself.
It is an invitation to understand the system that has worked so hard to protect you—and begin building a new relationship with yourself.
You Do Not Need to Become a Different Person
You may have spent years trying to be less sensitive, less anxious, less emotional, less needy or less affected by what happens around you.
This course offers another possibility.
Rather than becoming someone else, you can begin understanding the adaptations that have been covering, protecting and carrying you.
Your nervous system can learn new experiences.
Your protective parts can develop new roles.
And you can begin responding to life with more compassion, connection and choice.
You are not broken. You adapted.
Now you can begin rewriting the instructions.
